Can Das Import have an SCM-approved alarm installed?
Yes, we are happy to arrange this for you. Das Import has an SCM-certified alarm fitted before delivery, whereby we match the class to the requirement of your insurer. This way you drive off straight away with a car that meets the set conditions, without you having to look for an installation address yourself.
Would you like to know which class is suitable for your situation? Our advisors are happy to think along with you without obligation.
Can the windows be tinted?
Yes, we can arrange this for you. During the storage period we arrange the professional tinting of the rear windows, in accordance with the applicable regulations, so that you do not have to worry about this any further. Would you like to know what this means for your car? Feel free to request a no-obligation quote or contact one of our advisors.
Can a coating or paint protection be applied?
Yes, we can arrange this for you. In addition to the polishing that is included in the Deluxe package, Das Import can, if desired, have additional coating or paint protection applied, for example a ceramic coating. This way you not only have your car imported, but also delivered fully cared for.
Would you like to know what this means for your car? Feel free to request a no-obligation quote or contact one of our advisors.
What exactly falls under the aftercare and what does not?
Aftercare means that after delivery we support you in the communication with the seller or a brand dealer. Think of questions about the documents, the insurance and especially warranty matters: if something breaks that is covered by the warranty, we take care of the communication for you. In most cases you can simply go to the brand dealer in the Netherlands; so you do not have to return to Germany.
We mediate and guide — the repair itself is carried out by the brand dealer or the seller. Aftercare is included in the Versneld and the Deluxe package.
Would you like to know whether aftercare also suits the package you have in mind? Then please contact an import advisor.
Can I have accessories or an alarm installed during the import process?
Yes. While your car is stored with us waiting for the licence plate, we can arrange extras without delay, such as the installation of an alarm system (alarm class 1 to 5) or a vehicle tracking system, new tyres or rims, tinting windows, wrapping, chip tuning and various multimedia. This usually does not add any extra lead time.
Can Das Import remove unpleasant odours such as smoke or dog smell from my car?
Yes, with an ozone treatment. This involves placing a device in the car that produces ozone gas, which kills the bacteria that cause the odour. This eliminates odours such as smoke, dog smell or other unpleasant smells at the source instead of masking them, so that your car smells fresh again and is free of harmful substances and allergens. For an effective result, we only offer the ozone treatment in combination with our extensive detailing service, after a thorough cleaning of the interior.
Can I have the windows of my imported car blacked out or tinted?
Yes, blacking out car windows is custom work that we can arrange for you. In addition to a sporty appearance, the film blocks solar heat (which can improve comfort and even save fuel because the air conditioning works less hard), increases privacy, causes the windows to fog up less quickly, and results in fewer glass fragments flying around in the event of a collision. From the B-pillar onwards, it is legally permitted to fully black out the windows, provided a right-hand exterior mirror is present. You can request a quote without obligation; also if you do not import through us.
What is a Waxoyl treatment and how long does it protect the paintwork?
A Waxoyl treatment is a professional paint sealant that gives your car a high-gloss, impenetrable paint armour that protects against, among other things, UV radiation, acid rain, dirt, tar, bird droppings, insects and road salt. The sealant lasts on average several years and makes the car easier to keep clean. New cars (within three months) are treated with Waxoyl 100 Plus, used cars with Waxoyl Glaze Gard. The interior can also be treated with Waxoyl U.P.T. upholstery protector. The treatment is offered in addition to our polishing service; the warranty on gloss and colour retention is issued by Waxoyl itself.
Can I have leather upholstery installed or upgraded in my car?
Yes, Das Import can have leather or alcantara upholstery installed in your car afterwards or address parts such as the steering wheel or headliner. You have a choice of 25 types and colours of leather, from ordinary to exclusive, and almost any combination is possible. For the most common brands such as Audi, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Volkswagen and Porsche, even exactly the same materials as factory-fitted can be used (Dakota, Montana, Nappa, Valcona). The leather meets all industry standards and the production process guarantees the safety and functioning of, for example, the airbags.
Can Das Import arrange a charging station for me?
Yes, you can request a charging station through the partner of Das Import. You will receive a form on which you fill in basic details, such as your contact details, details about your electric vehicle and your wishes. Based on this, the partner draws up a tailored quote, contacts you by telephone to discuss the details and logistics, and then schedules the installation. You will also receive an explanation about the use and maintenance of the charging station. This is possible both for a company and for a private individual.
Can I have chip tuning performed on my imported car?
Yes, we have custom chip tuning carried out by a specialised partner, with warranty. For engines with a turbo or other form of boost pressure increase, this typically yields a 20 to 40% performance improvement (more torque and power), for naturally aspirated engines on average 6 to 8%, and with an unchanged driving style fuel consumption can decrease. Account is taken of the factory settings, gearbox, mileage and your wishes. A smart BPM tip: when purchasing, choose the lighter power variant (less BPM) and have chip tuning carried out after import for the desired upgrade.
Do I have to import through Das Import to have accessories installed?
No. All our accessory and installation services are also available to customers who do not import a car through us. Think of the installation of an alarm or vehicle tracking system, a valeting treatment with polishing and waxing, an ozone treatment, tinting windows, a Waxoyl treatment, tyre and rim service, leather installation and chip tuning. Please feel free to contact us if you would like to make use of one of these services.
Can you install a tow bar?
Yes. If desired, we can have a tow bar installed before the car is delivered.
Can you install a vehicle tracking system?
Yes. Vehicle tracking systems are also among the options.
Can you also maintain my car after delivery?
We can advise you on maintenance and, if desired, refer you to a suitable party. We do not perform maintenance ourselves.
Does the factory warranty lapse if I have a tow bar, alarm or tracking system installed?
Usually not in its entirety. A manufacturer may not simply void the warranty because an accessory has been fitted; however, damage that is demonstrably caused by the installation or the part may fall outside the warranty. This is particularly relevant with interventions in the electronics, such as an alarm, a vehicle tracking system or tow bar wiring, and with chip tuning — which is known to be able to have consequences for your warranty and insurance.
That is why we have installation carried out expertly and, for SCM alarm systems, we use exclusively A-quality products. Are you in doubt about a young car with a running factory warranty? Ask the manufacturer's dealer about the conditions in advance and discuss your wishes with one of our advisers, then we will look together at what is sensible.
Which windows may I have tinted in the Netherlands and which not?
In the Netherlands the divide is at the B-pillar. The windows behind the B-pillar may be fully tinted, provided the car has a right-hand exterior mirror. The windscreen and the front side windows must allow sufficient light through and may therefore not be darkly tinted; a film that reduces visibility is not permitted there.
If you do not adhere to this, it can lead to rejection at the APK (Dutch periodic vehicle inspection) and the police can address you about it on the road. We therefore tint exclusively the rearmost windows, in accordance with the applicable regulations, so that the car simply passes the inspection.
Would you like to know what is possible with your car? Request a no-obligation quote or consult with one of our advisers.
What exactly does a polishing and buffing treatment involve and can I have it carried out separately?
Our extensive polishing treatment consists of washing by hand and chamois drying, 1-layer buffing, cleaning the rims, windows inside and out, cleaning the interior, blacking the tyres and waxing the entire car.
The difference lies in the layer that is worked on. Buffing removes fine scratches and dull spots from the paintwork and brings back the shine. Waxing or coating then adds a protective layer; the coating from the Deluxe package seals the paintwork for 3 to 5 months. The treatment can be extended with a Waxoyl paint sealant or an ozone treatment.
Within our import packages, individual components cannot be purchased separately. However, you can have the polishing treatment carried out separately at our car detailing company in Zaandam; this also works for customers who do not import through us. Ask our advisers for a no-obligation quote.
Do I also get a warranty on accessories you install, such as an alarm, tow bar or coating?
The factory or brand warranty on the car itself simply remains valid and is usually valid EU-wide; in many cases you can go to a Dutch brand dealer for this.
If you have accessories installed during the waiting period for the registration, we work with quality products. We install SCM alarm systems exclusively with A-quality products, precisely to prevent malfunctions and false alerts.
Exactly which warranty applies to the product itself and to the installation work, and where you can go in the event of a malfunction, differs per accessory and per supplier. Of course, the statutory warranty simply applies as well. Ask about this in advance with one of our import advisers; they will record for your order what applies.
What effect does an alarm system or accessory have on my insurance and premium?
For insurance, what mainly counts is whether your car meets the security requirement set by your insurer. Which requirement that is depends on the new value (including BPM (Dutch vehicle registration tax) and VAT), the age and the brand: from an immobiliser on cheaper cars to an alarm with tilt detection and, at higher new prices, an SCM vehicle tracking system. If the car does not meet that requirement, an insurer may refuse all-risk or WA + limited casco cover or limit coverage in the event of theft.
German cars often have a lower security class than is required here. We check this on arrival, or beforehand if desired, and draw up a quote if necessary; installation or certification of an existing system can take place before delivery.
What it does to your premium differs per insurer and policy. Ask your own insurer or insurance adviser about this.
Can I have navigation, Apple CarPlay, parking sensors or a dashcam installed at a later stage?
We first look at what the car itself already has. German versions are often more richly equipped than comparable Dutch cars, with for example a more extensive audio and navigation system. What is stated in the advertisement is the equipment as the seller has specified it, and that list is not always complete. If you submit the car to us without obligation, your import adviser will check with the selling party whether smartphone integration, a rear-view camera or parking sensors are actually on board.
If the car is already fitted with navigation, Das Import sets the navigation and the language settings to the Netherlands and Europe for you, so that you drive off ready to use.
Would you like to have something added that is not on it? Put this to your import adviser; he will look with you at what is possible. To do so, leave your name, e-mail address, telephone number and the link or advertisement number.
Can Das Import have my car wrapped or fitted with protective film (PPF) before I get it?
As standard, we take care of the cleaning and paint care of your imported car: a hand wash on arrival and, in the Deluxe package, a professional polishing treatment with polishing and a protective coating. Additional paint protection, such as a ceramic coating or a Waxoyl paint sealant, we apply on request.
Would you like to have the car wrapped or fitted with protective film (Paint Protection Film)? Then put this to one of our import advisers. They will look per car at what is possible, when this fits in the process and what it costs. Your adviser will also answer, based on your request, the question of whether this can be included in a financing or lease arrangement.
Who installs the accessories and where is my car during that time?
In most cases the installation takes place during the period after your car has been imported at the RDW and Customs, while it stands still for a number of days awaiting the registration certificate. During that period your car is stored with us in Zaandam and the installation work simply takes place at our location. This way, installing common accessories such as an alarm, tyres and rims or tinted windows usually does not cause any delay to the delivery.
Would you like to know exactly how much time the installation of your specific accessory takes? Then please contact one of our import advisors.
Where in the Netherlands can I go for warranty work on a car that has been imported from Germany?
For factory warranty you can usually simply go to an official brand dealer in the Netherlands. The factory warranty is European and is linked to the vehicle (chassis number), not to the country where the car was purchased. You make an appointment yourself with the brand dealer of your choice; they assess the complaint and settle the warranty claim with the manufacturer.
A condition, however, is that the car has been maintained according to the factory specifications. Therefore keep the maintenance overview and the invoices of maintenance carried out.
If it concerns a dealer warranty or a Real Garant warranty, then the conditions of that specific warranty apply. Would you like to know what applies to a particular car? Please feel free to contact one of our advisors.
What do I still need to arrange myself regarding documents, tax and insurance after delivery?
Most things are already arranged at delivery: during the process we take care of the administrative handling, including the BPM (Dutch vehicle registration tax) declaration and the registration of the licence plate, and we apply for the number plates.
After delivery a few practical points remain:
- Insurance: your car must be insured before you take it onto the road; in the Netherlands there is a third-party liability insurance obligation as soon as the licence plate is registered in your name.
- Motorrijtuigenbelasting (Dutch road tax): the Tax Authority automatically sends you a bill for this after the licence plate has been registered in your name.
- APK (Dutch periodic vehicle inspection): the expiry date is registered with the RDW and you can look it up using your licence plate.
- Maintenance: we are happy to advise you and, if desired, refer you to a suitable party; we do not carry out maintenance ourselves.
If you have questions about your documents, warranty or insurance, you can also contact us after the import.
