What do the total import costs consist of?
The total import costs consist of the following components:
- Purchase price of the car

What is the difference between the indicative and the final quote?
The indicative quote gives a good first indication of the import costs, but is still based on the information from the advertisement or an estimated CO2 emission that is common for the relevant make/model. In the final quote you will find all the collected information about the car, including the definitively calculated BPM (Dutch vehicle registration tax) based on a scan of the registration documents. The BPM is then determined on the basis of the vehicle documentation and final, so that you will never face any surprises. Would you like an indication for a specific car? Do you also negotiate on the price?
Yes, when you make use of our car import service packages, we mediate in the purchase of the car. Negotiation on the price is included in this. For this we charge a share of 15% of the negotiated discount. This way you can be sure that we have just as much interest in the sharpest possible price as you do yourself. What is the price of an import package made up of?
We do not charge a margin that you cannot trace: on our packages page you will find, per component, what it is worth (all amounts excluding VAT).
The Registratie package (€699,99 incl. VAT) consists of: importing the car (€250,00), RDW fees (€140,20), BPM declaration (€75,00), luxury number plates (€45,00), basic hand wash (€30,00), storage costs (€40,00) and all-risk driving risk insurance (€25,00).
The Standaard package (€1.699,99 incl. VAT) is everything from the Registratie package (€605,20) plus purchase handling (€150,00), all-risk transport by trailer from all over Germany (€595,00) and additional all-risk coverage during transport and storage up to a purchase sum of €40.000 (€75,00).
The Versneld package (€1.899,99 incl. VAT) is everything from Standaard (€1.425,20) plus expedited transport (€125,00), the 15-point arrival check (€50,00) and aftercare after delivery (€50,00).
The Deluxe package (€2.399,99 incl. VAT) is everything from Versneld (€1.650,20) plus the 30-point arrival check (€50,00), a professional detailing (€350,00) and a luxury delivery (€50,00).
Moreover, you pay less than the sum of the individual components: with Deluxe, for example, €2.399,99 instead of €2.518,46. In addition, a surcharge applies for a van/delivery vehicle (€250,00) and, for a purchase sum above €40.000, an extension of the all-risk coverage (€75,00).

Can I purchase individual parts or services from Das Import?
In principle, no. Our packages are a single service with one predetermined total price, and the components are listed only to show how that price is built up. So you cannot, for example, purchase only the transport, only the RDW-registration, or only the detailing.
The only exception is the BPM (Dutch vehicle registration tax) declaration with report: you can have this drawn up separately by us for € 75,00 excluding VAT.
A few things can be added, but always in combination with a package: the pre-purchase inspection in Germany (€ 200,00 excluding VAT), a temporary German licence plate if you collect the car yourself (€ 302,50 including VAT plus delivery costs), and the surcharge for a van or delivery vehicle.
If you arrange the purchase and transport yourself, then the Registratie package (€ 699,99 including VAT) is the smallest form in which we can help you.
How quickly do I have to agree to the final quote?
Usually we can reserve a car in Germany for 24 hours. Should this be different, you will be informed about it.
What is the cost of an independent pre-purchase inspection via Das Import?
A pre-purchase inspection is an inspection of the car in Germany, carried out by an independent inspection body, so that you have maximum certainty about the condition of the vehicle before purchase. We recommend this especially for cars from non-recognised dealers and for cars older than 5 years. You do not have to organise this yourself: we arrange the inspection for you and discuss the outcome with you before you make a decision. We agree the cost of the inspection with you in advance and include it in your quotation, so that you have one clear total overview of all import costs. The costs we charge for scheduling and carrying out an independent technical pre-purchase inspection in Germany are €200,- excl. VAT. We only provide our service of carrying out this pre-purchase inspection in combination with our car import service packages.
What is the price of the Registratiepakket made up of?
The Registratiepakket costs € 699,99 including VAT (€ 605,20 excluding VAT). That amount is made up of, all excluding VAT:
- Importing the car at the RDW at our location — € 250,00
- RDW fees, recycling and registration in the owner's name — € 140,20
- BPM declaration — € 75,00
- Luxury registration plates — € 45,00
- Basic hand wash — € 30,00
- Storage — € 40,00
- All-risk driving risk — € 25,00
Note the VAT: of that € 140,20 in fees, € 108,50 is exempt from VAT, because these are government actions. VAT of 21% is charged on the remaining € 31,70. That is why you cannot simply multiply the amount excluding VAT by 1,21.
If you were to purchase these components separately, you would end up at € 709,51 including VAT. The package price is € 699,99, so you have € 9,52 package advantage.

What do the total costs of importing a car consist of?
The total costs consist of the purchase price, the BPM (Dutch vehicle registration tax), the transport, the RDW inspection, the registratie, the licence plate issuance and any import service fees. Depending on your situation, additional costs may apply for, for example, a purchase inspection or supplementary services.
The BPM itself depends on the type of drivetrain (petrol, diesel, hybrid or electric), the mileage, the date of first admission, the CO2 emissions and the applicable BPM regime. The exact costs therefore differ per car and per chosen import method.
What can I save

How much you save differs per car: German cars are often cheaper to purchase, more richly equipped and usually have a lower mileage. In the exclusive segment the savings are often very considerable. Based on the advertisement, we draw up a non-binding indicative quotation with the purchase price, the expected residual BPM (Dutch vehicle registration tax), the chosen import package, any VAT and optional extras. This way you see the total drive-away price on a Dutch registration in a single overview and you can compare it with a similar car in the Netherlands. The Standaard package costs € 1.699,99 including VAT (€ 1.425,20 excluding VAT). You get everything from the Registratiepakket, and on top of that comes, excluding VAT:

- Additional all-risk cover up to € 40.000 — € 75,00

Purchased separately, all these components would cost € 1.701,71 including VAT; the package price is € 1.699,99. If your car is worth more than € 40.000, an extension of the all-risk cover of € 75,00 excluding VAT will be added. For a van or delivery van, a surcharge of € 250,00 excluding VAT applies.

What does a temporary German licence plate cost and what does that amount consist of?
A temporary German licence plate costs € 302,50 including VAT (€ 250,00 excluding VAT). That amount consists of:

- Third-party liability insurance with green card — € 70,00 excl. VAT
- Handling of the application — € 15,00 excl. VAT
On top of this come delivery costs: € 45,00 excluding VAT for delivery in the Netherlands or € 35,00 excluding VAT for delivery in Germany (directly to the seller).

What do the import service packages of Das Import cost?
The package prices (including VAT) are: Standaard from €1.699,99, Versneld €1.899,99 and Deluxe €2.399,99. If you arrange the purchase and transport yourself, the Registratiepakket costs €699,99 and a separate temporary (German) registration plate €302,50 plus delivery costs. These prices exclude the purchase price of the car itself, the BPM to be paid and any options such as a surcharge for commercial vehicles.
What does the consignment sales service of Das Import cost?
The costs consist of a start-up fee of 350 euro for putting your car up for sale (creating an advertisement, calculating the guarantee price, cleaning and polishing, an extensive photo report and three months of advertising on at least ten car websites; extension costs 47,50 euro per month). In addition, upon a successful sale we charge a success fee of 4% of the realised sales price, with a minimum of 1.500 euro. This is no cure no pay: you only pay the commission after you have received the full sales amount from the buyer. If you wish to store the car with us, that costs 75 euro per month. All amounts are exclusive of 21% VAT.
Is it advisable to prepare a preliminary calculation or an indicative quote in advance?
Yes, that is advisable. A proper preliminary calculation prevents surprises and shows whether importing is financially attractive. Das Import can prepare an indicative quote based on the advertisement, so that you have a clear picture of the total costs in advance. In addition, on our website you will find a wide range of cars from authorised brand dealers and verified sellers, where the BPM, VAT and import costs are already clearly included. All our calculations and quotes are free and without obligation.
Are there any hidden costs?
No. We inform you in advance as fully as possible about the costs of your import process.
Are the prices on your website including BPM?
Yes. For cars where this is possible, we show prices including BPM and import costs.
What costs do I pay if I import the car myself?
Even when you import the car yourself, you will incur costs such as RDW fees, licence plates, any BPM (Dutch vehicle registration tax) and other import costs.
What are facilitation costs?
If your import goes together with financing or lease, we charge facilitation costs for the purchase and financing process: € 350 excluding VAT. This is the fee for handling the purchase in combination with the financing.
You will find this item back in the price breakdown of your quote as soon as you choose a financing or lease option. If you buy the car yourself and do not finance through us, this item will not appear in your quote.
Is the all-risk increase above € 40,000 automatically included in my price?
Yes. The car import service packages include the additional all-risk coverage up to a purchase sum of € 40,000 as standard. If the purchase sum is higher, that coverage is extended to the full purchase sum and the quote automatically adds € 75 excluding VAT for it.
So you do not need to apply for anything. The item appears in the price breakdown of your quote, so you can see where the amount comes from.
Is the package price a fixed price, or can the final invoice turn out higher than the quotation?
The package price is a fixed total price. A package is a single service; components cannot be taken separately and the price is not adjusted. Only surcharges known in advance may be added, such as an extension of the all-risk cover for a car above € 40.000 or a surcharge for a van or delivery vehicle. These are then simply stated in your quotation.
In the indicative quotation the BPM (Dutch vehicle registration tax) is still an estimate based on the advertisement details. Once the purchase becomes concrete, we request the registration documents from the seller and determine the BPM definitively. We record that amount in the agreement of assignment. If the definitive BPM subsequently turns out higher, that difference is for the account of Das Import.

Is the VAT already included in the amount I pay for the car, or is it added on top?
That depends on the car and on yourself.
- If, as a private individual, you buy a car that is older than 6 months and has driven more than 6.000 km, then you simply pay the German VAT (19%) in the price of the car. You settle at the advertisement price (the Bruttopreis) and no VAT is due in the Netherlands. Whether it is a VAT car or a margin car then makes no difference to your final amount.
- If the car counts as new for VAT purposes (younger than 6 months or fewer than 6.000 km), then you buy net in Germany and pay 21% Dutch VAT. With a young car that difference quickly adds up to thousands of euros.
- If you buy for business purposes, you always buy net and can reclaim the VAT on a VAT car.
Your import adviser will calculate for your car exactly what applies and what you pay at the bottom line.
Can I finance or lease an imported car, and what does that mean for my quotation?
Yes, that is possible. If you purchase the car for business purposes, financial lease is possible: you pay a fixed monthly amount at a fixed term and interest rate, the car serves as collateral, and at the end of the term you become the owner.
With financial lease, Das Import purchases the car for you. That is not a choice of ours: the finance company wants the car to be delivered by a Dutch, RDW-recognised car dealer and not by a foreign seller with whom it does no business. We therefore purchase the car ourselves in Germany, import it and deliver it to you. In all other cases you, in most situations, buy directly from the German seller yourself.
If you buy privately, our partners offer private finance or a personal loan. Das Import does not provide financing itself; this always runs through a partner.
The amount to be financed differs per form: with financial lease the value excluding VAT, increased by the BPM; with private finance the purchase price including VAT.
In your quotation you will see, in a financing or leasing arrangement, the facilitation costs of € 350 excluding VAT. Interest, term and conditions depend on the provider and your situation; an import adviser will gladly set out the options side by side for you.
Is it cheaper to import my car from Germany myself than to purchase an import package?
Part of the costs you pay in both cases: RDW (Dutch vehicle authority) fees, licence plates, any BPM (Dutch vehicle registration tax) and other import costs. These therefore fall outside the comparison.
The difference lies in the rest. If you do it yourself, you add the outbound trip or the transport, your own time and the risk that you overlook something in the regulations, documents or communication with the German seller. If the car is a bit further away, an import package is quickly more advantageous than driving back and forth yourself.
If you choose an import package, then depending on the package, matters such as purchase handling, transport, BPM declaration and RDW inspection are arranged. If you collect the car yourself and leave only the importing and registration to us, then the Registratie package (registration package) costs € 699,99 incl. VAT.
Whether a package pays for itself depends on the car, the distance and what you want to do yourself. We will calculate the total import costs for you without obligation.
What does it cost if I cancel the process, and do I get paid amounts back if the car has already been sold or rejected?
Whether cancellation is possible depends mainly on the phase your process is in. If the car has not yet been purchased, there are generally more options than when the purchase is already final. In most cases you buy directly from the German seller yourself; what you can cancel and under what conditions then follows from the purchase agreement you conclude with that seller. We explain those conditions clearly to you in advance.
If the car turns out to have already been sold, you will hear this directly from us and our advisers will actively help look for a comparable alternative in the same price range. If something comes to light from an independent purchase inspection that causes you to withdraw from the car, please contact your import adviser: he will discuss with you which amounts in your situation are still outstanding or refundable.
Do your package prices also apply to a van, camper, motorcycle or classic car?
The package price is the basis; for a van or delivery vehicle a surcharge of € 250 excl. VAT is added with the import packages (storage and transport), or € 75 excl. VAT if you only take the Registratiepakket because you collect it yourself. If the vehicle is worth more than € 40,000, an additional € 75 excl. VAT applies for extending the all-risk coverage during transport.
The BPM does differ per vehicle type: a camper van, for example, falls under the 'special passenger car' category with its own rate. We assess per vehicle which category it falls under.
